Commissioner Karlene Maxwell-Williams has been a dedicated resident of Lauderdale Lakes for over 20 years, bringing with her a wealth of experience and a deep commitment to her community. Born in Kingston, Jamaica, and raised in Manhattan, New York, Karlene embodies a diverse cultural background that enriches her approach to public service. She has been proudly married for 28 years and is a devoted mother to four children, two boys and two girls. Her family-oriented values are at the core of her dedication to improving Lauderdale Lakes for all families.
Professionally, Karlene is one of the top Florida Supreme Court-certified mediators for Broward County. Her extensive background in conflict resolution, including her roles as a Broward County Courts Mediator and a County Mediation Assistance Trainer, has equipped her with the skills necessary to navigate complex issues and bring about practical solutions. Karlene holds a bachelor’s degree in management, further bolstering her leadership and organizational management capabilities. Karlene’s community involvement is extensive and impactful. She has been a Saint Benedict Episcopal Church member for more than 22 years, demonstrating her long-standing commitment to faith and service.
Throughout her tenure in Lauderdale Lakes, she has initiated numerous programs to support those in need, including organizing food drives, mask giveaways, and providing meals to older adults and healthcare workers during the COVID-19 pandemic. Karlene has also been a steadfast advocate for social justice, participating in initiatives such as Black Lives Matter International and supporting various causes to promote equality and human rights. As a commissioner, Karlene brings a fresh perspective and a results-driven approach to addressing the issues that matter most to the residents of Lauderdale Lakes. Her empathy, confidence, and determination are reflected in her commitment to enhancing community safety, improving programs for youth and seniors, and fostering economic growth.
